If you arrive early, we recommend stopping at the Blue Lagoon on your way to Reykjavík (not included) and/or getting the Reykjavík Tourist Card, which grants you access to all the museums owned by the city of Reykjavík, all the swimming pools in Reykjavík and all buses that run within the greater Reykjavík area. Stay in a hotel or guesthouse in Reykjavík.

A full day drive, taking in some of the best-known natural phenomena in Iceland including Þingvellir National Park, the waterfall Gullfoss, the great Geysir area and Kerið. Stay in a hotel or guesthouse in Hvolsvöllur.

Day 3: The South Coast

Drive from Hvolsvöllur to Skaftafell National Park. Sights along the way include the waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, the rock formations of Dyrhólaey and Reynisdrangar on the black sand beach south of Vík, and the village Kirkjubæjarklaustur. There are many interesting hiking trails in Skaftafell National Park, including a short hike to the beautiful Svartifoss waterfall. Stay in a hotel or guesthouse in or around Skaftafell National Park.

Day 4: Skaftafell and Vatnajökull Glacier

Start the day in Skaftafell National Park before heading east to the Glacial Lagoon Jökulsárlón, where you can get a boat ride between the glacier-calves. Stay in a hotel or guesthouse in Höfn or Berufjörður.

Day 5: The East Fjords

Drive to Lake Mývatn. Sights along the way include Mt. Búlandstindur, the monster habitat Lagarfljót River and Möðrudalur valley. Stay in a hotel or guesthouse around Lake Mývatn.

Explore Lake Mývatn and its surroundings, including Námaskarð; the pseudo-craters at Skútustaðir; Ásbyrgi canyon and Dettifoss, the most powerful waterfall in Europe, just to name a few. Stay in a hotel or guesthouse around Lake Mývatn.

Day 7: Akureyri

Spend the first half of the day around Lake Mývatn. Visit Goðafoss (the waterfall of the Gods) on your way to Akureyri, the ‘capital of the north’. Spend the rest of the day in Akureyri and stay in a hotel or guesthouse there.
